BLR awarded grant from National Endowment for the Arts
December 01, 2010
The Bellevue Literary Review has been awarded a $10,000 Access to Artistic Excellence grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in recognition of its upcoming 10th anniversary. A special expanded issue, to be published in Fall 2011, will celebrate the BLR’s emergence over the last decade, both as a literary magazine with a national following and as a touchstone in the increasingly popular field of narrative medicine.
The 10th anniversary issue will open with a series of essays on the theme of “Illness as Muse.” This theme describes succinctly the fabric of the BLR—how illness, health, and healing not only inspire the sharing of stories but also rouse creativity in exciting and innovative ways. The rest of this special issue will be filled with poetry, fiction, and nonfiction by both new and established authors.
