Spring issue available
April 01, 2010
The spring issue, featuring the winners of the 2010 BLR prizes, is now available.
The fiction winner - "Cocido" by Larry Hill - is a gripping story of a wounded soldier's return to the barrio. Judge Gail Godwin said "it has resonance on so many levels... It is such an American story for these times."
The nonfiction winner - "The House Across from the Park" by Joan Kip - is a meditation on living and aging, and was selected by judge Phillip Lopate.
The poetry prizewinner is "The Thundering" by Amanda Auchter, which was described by judge Tony Hoagland as having “...a kind of majesty of sound, and impeccable confidence in execution. It has sensuous depth, and real gravitas and austerity in the way it takes on its subject of suicide.”
