In Memoriam: Samuel Menashe

In Memoriam
Samuel Menashe (1925-2011)
With the passage of years, we have gained and lost
friends. A very recent loss was Samuel Menashe, a
New York City poet. Samuel’s poem “Strategy” was
published in the Spring 2004 issue of the BLR, and
reprinted in our anthology, The Best of the Bellevue Literary
Review. He was a notable presence at our readings,
sharing his own work with humor and subtle beauty.
Given the first-ever “Neglected Master” Award by the
Poetry Foundation in 2004 and his work published
by the Library of America in 2005 at the age of 80,
Samuel enriched our lives and many others.
