Can stories save our souls?

December 30, 2013

“Stories save our souls. They really do.”*

When we asked one of our authors to describe what the Bellevue Literary Review has meant to her, she included those words—summing up eloquently and simply why we at BLR do what we do. Finding stories, poems, and essays that resonate with our readers is affirming work. We hope reading the BLR has made you think, made you happy, made you cry—and has led you to a piece of writing that you find soul-saving.

Please consider including BLR in your giving. Your support will help us continue to publish exciting new writers whose words will connect our readers to each other and to the world. Many of your fellow readers have made contributions, and we hope you will too. As a small organization, the BLR is extremely efficient with its resources. Every dollar donated is spent directly on the publication, printing, and distribution of its literary works.

The BLR was recently listed as one of the top ten journals that actually does publish new writers. We are proud to be on the vanguard of bringing fresh voices to the table. And we are also proud of expanding the table as widely as we can, donating copies of the BLR to libraries, schools, prisons, the military, and communities that are underserved in the arts.

Please support BLR today.

Sincerely,

Danielle Ofri
Editor-in-chief

Caroline was kind enough to participate in our “Voices of the BLR” campaign this summer. You can watch her read an excerpt from her story “Breathe,” which appeared in The Best of the Bellevue Literary Review.
