In Memoriam: Joan Kip
April 08, 2013
The editors of the Bellevue Literary Review mourn the loss of Joan Kip and extend our sympathies to her family and friends. Joan has been a special part of the BLR and we will remember her warmly.
We first published Joan’s essay “Bereavement and Beyond” in 2002, and later published her essay “Solitude” in our theme issue on aging in 2007.
Joan’s essay “The House Across from the Park” was then selected by Phillip Lopate as winner of our 2010 Prize for Nonfiction. She was 92 at the time!
Joan wrote about aging and matters of the heart, including a memoir titled A Different Woman: The View From Ninety. She was a hospice counselor for many years.
